CANNOCK CHASE ORPHEUS MALE CHOIR
Cannock Chase Orpheus Male Choir was originally formed by the amalgamation of 5 local colliery choirs. It has been in existence since 1967. The Choir was officially inaugurated in 1968, and has been entertaining audiences ever since. Its success has been born from the sheer dedication, energy and professionalism of the founders and stalwarts that have served the choir from its origins through to the present day.
Over the decades the choir has taken part in choral competitions and eisteddfods, winning major awards for its performances in the UK and Europe. The choir has many notable achievements. There have been many invitations for the choir to be involved with radio and television broadcasts and show business events appearing with many top artists, entertainers, big bands, brass bands and orchestras.
This Internationally renowned choir is having an exciting time. It has performed a series of very successful concerts raising funds for well-known local and national charities and community projects. The disciplined versatile singing style and the extensive repertoire has drawn much praise from serious music critics, audiences and fans alike.
Training and rehearsals weekly continue to encourage all of the choir. The choir responds well to the valuable instruction and direction of the music team, proving that singing is a great release and is a real pleasure enjoyed by every chorister.
It is a great privilege for the choir to have Frank Morris and Pauline Pritchards in the music team, they have a real passion for choral music and a loyalty to the Chase Orpheus.
We have seen a lot of changes over the past 50 years, sadly not all of our choiristers are with us to celebrate this milestone. We would like to thank each and every member of the choir past and present for their service, loyalty, commitment and friendship over the years you will always be remembered fondly. Thank you all!
We are often asked. "So what is or who is Orpheus?"
