An Evening With Barry Banks (WOW what a night)

Well, after a fantastic evening with Yvonne Howard, we are again honoured to have had an evening with one of the finest tenors this country has ever produced: Barry Banks.

Barry Banks 1

Barry Banks outstanding facility in roles by Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini has brought him to the attention of the world's leading opera houses.

With The Metropolitan Opera he has partnered Natalie Dessay in both La fille du regiment and La sonnambula, Renée Fleming in Armida, Anna Netrebko in both Don Pasquale and L'elisir d'amore and Olga Borodina in L'italiana in Algeri. During his long association with English National Opera he has appeared most notably as Tamino in The Magic Flute, Tom Rakewell in The Rake's Progress, and last season with his highly-praised portrayal of Edgardo, sung with "fiery elegance and wonderful ease" (The Times, February 2008), in David Alden's acclaimed production of Lucia di Lammermoor.

Recent highlights include his debut at the Royal Danish Opera as Idreno in Semiramide, a return to the Teatro San Carlo in Naples for Donizetti’s Il Campanello and Count Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at the Staatsoper Berlin. He also sang the War Requiem with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Barry's rendition of "Danny Boy" made grown men cry, it was a very, very special moment indeed. We'll never forget it...
